Sony-Fagerhult partnership delivers smart 2-in-1 solution

Fagerhult and Sony are working together to create responsive office spaces of the future. How are the two companies using sensors to make office spaces both more interactive – and more resource efficient?

Currently, Fagerhult has luminaires with integrated sensors and beacons. They can automatically adjust the level of light in response to daylight and to the presence of people in a space. The Nimway solution uses beacons too, but to detect where people are sitting, making it easy to locate colleagues in modern Activity-based Workplaces. 

By combining forces, Sony and Fagerhult can achieve more together. From the start, it was clear that their two individual solutions complemented one another in many areas. Magnus Persson of Nimway explains, “It was exciting to see how the sensors in Fagerhult’s lights could be combined with the Nimway system, and how Nimway’s sensors and applications could be used to enhance Fagerhult’s lighting solution.”

The outcome of their partnership is a new service that Lars-Gunnar Lundgren, head of the Nimway team, describes as a “neat, two-in-one solution that successfully marries the advantages of smart lighting and smart indoor positioning.”

Companies using the new service can look forward to important sustainability and cost advantages. Organic Response saves energy with optimal lighting supplied only where needed, thanks to presence detection. With the Nimway and Fagerhult solutions combined, one set of beacons can now do two jobs. This saves on hardware, simplifies maintenance and improves performance.

Looking ahead, the new service also paves the way for Fagerhult’s customers to acquire a complete Nimway solution including desk management, room booking, error reporting and analytical services in the future.
