To achieve the potential of wearables for healthcare in any health context, the device and sensors that do the collecting need to be dependable.
How does mSafety stand up to the toughest conditions users might face? Read on to find out.
Put to the test
When we tested the mSafety wearable device for adherence to global Sony quality standards, we proved it as a durable device, with certifications like IK04 for impacts and IP68 for water and dust. mSafety devices can handle dusty or sandy environments and resist the corrosive effects of sea water and salt spray. They can withstand shocks, vibrations and being dropped. Even thermal shocks, extreme temperatures and radiation from the sun are no match for the devices.
What’s the harm in a fragile device?
Wearable devices have a big role to play in the future of healthcare. They can be the cornerstone of a healthcare provider’s remote and proactive services – collecting real-time health data that enables early intervention, more personal freedom and alleviates time constraints for the care provider. They can be used in occupational health and safety contexts, as a means to coordinate employees, monitor their wellbeing and intervene if things go wrong. Wearables can also support decentralised clinical trials – simplifying participation for study subjects, letting clinical researchers reach a broader demographic and improving trial adherence and retention.
But none of this can come to fruition if the devices themselves are unreliable. In everyday life, people drop, spill and fall. And vital health services need to stay active.
The benefit of a durable device
A durable wearable device puts everyone’s mind at ease. For service providers, they can rest assured that a small accident won’t impact the integrity of the sensors. The data collection process will continue as normal, and they will be able to provide their service and keep their users safe and healthy. Not only that, device integrity means reusability – and being able to disinfect the devices with cleaning substances.
For device users, a durable device means they can go about their day exactly as they would otherwise. They can use the device while sleeping, exercising or swimming, without being worried about impacting the device and disrupting the health service. They simply have to wear the device.
